Google Earth, browse the World in 3D, Real time
According to Windipundit, Google is releasing to selected Keyhole users a beta version of the Google Earth application.
Since it is an actual software program running on your local PC, Google Earth is much faster and smoother in rendering satellite maps of the entire Earth than GoogleMaps. It initially draws a blurred version of the region you want to visit and then it refines the rendering thanks to the data transferrered from Google’s network of dedicated servers.
Using your mouse you can browse and zoom to any place in the World plus admiring a 3D reconstruction of 38 cities in the United States.
The integration of Google’s Local Search and Driving Directions into Google Earth allows the user to search for an address and then to find the driving direction to reach it.
Some impressions on Google Earth beta preview:
I have to agree that it is an improvement in many ways especially with the building freature, and it would be awsome if there were 3D photos of the buildings, (show all actual details of the structure). Thus far, I am only disappointed with the clarity at the lowest zoom level. With Keyhole, I was able to get into around 1400 feet with really good clarity of my street and vehicle, but now, its blurry, and the clearest visual I can get in nearly every place I visit is over 20K feet.
I installed this upgrade June 2. There are several nice features, and controls are better looking. The left side navigation area seems to require too much space at times. However, please note: in my first session, the new Keyhole LOCKED UP my computer, requiring a power-off reboot.
I too have noticed a drop in image quality from Keyhole LT to Google Earth Plus especially in downtown San Diego. It seems to be lower resolution plus a drop in the number of colors. The bay is very pixilated. I plan on re-installing Keyhole LT to get some screen shots for comparisons.
Regarding Cambridge, MA, the resolution looks about right but again the drop in the number of colors is very noticeable. I am set to 32-bit color in both the app and in Windows XP.

according to what I know, Google Earth is in beta stage, meaning, it cannot be bought yet. It should be possible to buy it only when it will be completed and publicly released.

I used that back when it was still Keyhole’s software. Pretty cool. I orientated myself with the Las Vegas street plan prior to going there to prevent getting lost in a drunken state. It served me well.
I’ve been in the Colosseum in Rome. Now that’s an amazing place. I’d love to go back in time and sit in a sell-out Colosseum watching navy battles or gladiators knock eachother out.

unfortunately Google Earth will NOT work on Windows 98.
I did a search for you (on Google!
) and I found some reference stating that Windows 98 is not a supported Operating System:
“it requires a New Technology (NT) version of Windows, either Windows 2000 or XP.”

Although the Google Earth review guide is listing Windows 98 as a supported O.S. in the minimum configuration requirements.

Hi! Mr.Rocky, If you cannot install google earth into your windows (ME). I can suggest you some. As for me I can’t either. But I tried to download the file PSAPI.DLL from the microsoft web site into my computer and then I could install it. But it’s quite hard to use it at first.
That’s it if you have more things to know, feel free to ask me anytime, I will be gradfull to answer.

another comment. i have the regular google earth, but when
I try to visit my home town in Nebraska, you can only
get to like within 1000 ft alt . After that, it all become

Hi guys, hope you will getting enjoy of this software. it’s really a great reward for Google team that they make such kind of software. well i have also heard that this software work live at real time. but i don’t think so. i am also having problem with DIRECT X. could any one guide me what i have to do with this. and which version of Direct X i have to install. i am unable to see any 3D graphics, like Buildings, House, Hospital, Schools etc etc, i am just able to see these by their names. i think that it will be because of Direct X so kindly suggest me what i have to do and which version of direct x i have to install to view the 3D animations and Graphics.
